Contract: full time, one year fixed-term contract, renewable.
Gross Annual Salary: from € 36.000 to € 39.000 (based on qualification and work experience).

We are embarking on a major change program to deliver our new Fundraising strategy 2022-25. Reporting directly to the Head of Fundraising you will have the responsibility of manage the planning, development, maintenance and monitoring of loyalty and retention fundraising programs. This focuses on giving from existing donors through upgrade, cash, and retention initiatives.

The role will ensure we retain and develop committed donors and supporters who share Amnesty’s vision and determination to protect and defend people’s lives and are passionate about ensuring we live in a world of justice, equality and dignity for everyone.

About the Role

The Head of Donor Development ensures the following goals are reached:

  1. Develop and manage individual giving development and retention programs, budgets and expenditure to meet fundraising strategic objectives and targets. This is focused on our regular givers and one-off donors.
  2. Develop and manage communication funnels to improve the sense of belonging of our donors, to decrease attrition rate and increase annual average donation.
  3. Manage and develop actual, innovative, and best practice strategy, plans and tactics to grow the program.
  4. Ensure all materials and content are of high quality, relevant and timely.

About You
We are looking for a Head of Donor Development with the following characteristics:

  1. University degree (or equivalent) in Marketing or Economics, Communication and Fundraising (or relevant subject). Master’s degree in Fundraising (or equivalent) is an asset.


  1. 3-5 years proven record of management and leadership success in an individual giving development and retention program with knowledge of a specific range of fundraising techniques and activities (Telemarketing, Direct mail, Donor care, Digital) preferably in an international NPO;
  2. proven experience in developing and delivering successful multiyear supporter retention, loyalty and development strategies;
  3. track record of leading donor development programs where regular giving is a significant income stream;
  4. leadership and people management experience developing and nurturing relationships to drive collaborative change.

Technical skills and knowledge

  1. Exceptional knowledge in developing and managing development, loyalty and retention programs including telemarketing, donor care, direct mail and digital;
  2. demonstrated high level fundraising and marketing skills, creativity and experience, including the ability to identify opportunities and implement innovative solutions;
  3. strong analytical skills, including ability to utilise CRM tools and systems;
  4. commitment to human rights. Understanding of Amnesty International, its mission and policies;
  5. written and oral proficiency in Italian and English are essential.

  3. Project Management: developing and managing clearly defined work plans and identify objectives, results, and success indicators in light of organizational strategies and of constraints, opportunities, and resources.
