Be part of a worldwide photographic project

Photograph what our lives look like on May 15th 2012

di Cristina Barbetta

On 15 May 2012 the Aday.org  initiative will invite the entire world to participate in the  largest and most comprehensive single day photographic project in human history.

Anyone is asked to document their experiences of the day:  professionals, amateurs, school children, farmers, social media fans, astronauts, office workers.

The mission of Aday.org  is to use the power of photography to create, share and inspire perspectives on daily life worldwide, -today and tomorrow-  as well as on photography itself.

The project is initiated by the Swedish nonprofit foundation Expressions of Humankind, that supports scientific research and education focused on the photographic image and the written word. Its aim is to inspire  creative reflections on humanity, by experiencing global perspectives.

All images will be displayed online for everyone to explore. The result will be a massive digital image bank, free and accessible to everyone, everywhere. Images will be connected  to images from all around the world, creating a unique online experience where photographs will be shared, compared and explored.

Photos will be submitted  to an enormous online images archive, found at Aday.org  and linked to major themes such as “Home” and “Work”.

Some of the pictures will be selected for a book, A Day in the World, to be published in October 2012, others shown in exhibitions, either printed or digital. Every single picture will be saved for future research and inspiration.

Aday.org is supported by a highly respected global advisory council and a special scientific council, as well as by many well known and inspiring personalities around the world. Among others, two Noble Peace  Prize laureates, ex Presidents, Prime Ministers and the Deputy Secretary General of the UN.

“Photography is a wonderful thing. It  transcends the barriers of language,  age, gender and culture. If we want to improve understanding between people it is important to share the way we live and who we are. Take this unique opportunity with me and thousands around the world to create a priceless collection of images to push understanding and enhance research and education. Leave a message for the future: share your life with the rest of the world”, says Archbishop Desmond Tutu, member of Aday.org’s global Advisory Council.

World famous photojournalist Reza is one of the photographers supporting the initiative: “Image becomes every day the common alphabet  of humanity. My engagement and all my projects have the objective to spread this language. The project launched by Aday.org is a wonderful initiative : on 15 May 2012 all the world is invited to photograph a day in the history of humanity. That day I will be between Baku and the New York Photo Festival. And you, where will you take your pictures? Show your visual witness of a day to the whole world. Participate, become one of ours”:
