Turning cars into trees

Scrap a car plant a tree is a project that will help car owners make up for the damage their cars have done to the environment

“Green” is definitely not the first word that we think of, when we speak about cars, because in terms of sustainability, the only good car is a dead car, this is what the founders of Giveacar must have thought when they created their latest project: Scrap a car Plant a Tree.

As a matter of fact, while automobiles are responsible for a large portion of greenhouse gases and they do a lot of damage to the environment in their lifetime, Scrap a car plant a tree, gives car owners the chance to help repair the damage they have contributed to do, by planting trees with the funds raised from the scrap metal or auction value of their vehicles.

Taking part in the initiative is extremely easy: those who want donate just have to fill out a form on the  Scrap Car Plant Tree website, giving details about the car and arranging a pick up time. Cars will be towed within one to three days, after which they will be taken to a scrap yard or put up for auction if it is still in good shape. The funds raised will be donated to Trees for Cities, a registered charity  which aims at making British neighborhoods greener and the more breathable through tree planting. According to the charity, a scrap car could plant about 13 tree, while an auction car could plant a whole grove.
