Italy: incentives in Veneto for over 45’s workers

2,3million euros is the amount that will finance 8 projects to reintegrate unemployed people and retrain over 45’s workers

Elena Donazzan, Veneto?s regional councillor for Education, Training and Employment, approved a budget for 8 projects of 2,3million euros aiming to reintegrate unemployed people to the job market and retrain over 45?s workers. A particular focus will be placed on high-skilled professionals, who often face a greatest difficulty in keeping their position or in finding another job after being dismissed.

In spite of the growing number of elderly people in the regional labour force, Veneto still has one of the lowest occupation rates for this population group compared the national and european levels.

This negative record ? Donazzan explains ? is expecially relevant for women. Elderly people find it harder to obtain new jobs compared to younger people. With this new budgets the authorities want to fight this situation, fostering the so called ?active aging?.

Of the over 45?s who lost their job in the year 2000 only a quarter found another employment within three months, while for adults (aged 30/44) and youths (15/29) this percentage reaches 41%.

The projects foresee two kinds of action: the first aiming to reintegrate unemployed people and retrain over 45?s while the second is addressed to the people living in areas affected by sector or local crisis. As far as the amount of fundings is concerned, the latter will be financed with a single fund of 300,000 eur while the former will be financed by a specific budget according to the unemployment rate of each local district, which ranges from 7,5% in Belluno to 15,5% in Vicenza.
