Italy: a poor “8 per thousand”

A handful of money to cope with 1600 demands for social intervention. A little more than 4000 euros. This is all the sum of the 8 per thousand – the sum destinated to social issues trouhj tax payment – in the hands of the State for the year 2006, after the cuts of the Financial Law, which cut more than 90% (more than 80 million euros).

The entire sum will be allocated to the struggle against hunger in the world. The financing will start at the end of the year and will contribute to implement 25 projects already in place focusing on food security in Sub-Saharan African countries, in Asia and in South America.

A list of about 20 NGOs, whose names will be published in October, will be committed in building local co-operatives, waterworks, wells and training initiatives on idric and food supply.
