Forty-five charities and campaigning bodies have formed a coalition to lobby against the causes of UK poverty in the run-up to the next general election.
The Get Fair coalition, due to be launched to the media in September, will call on all political parties to commit themselves to ensuring everyone has adequate income, fair access to services and affordable homes.
Among charities already signed up are Help the Aged, Oxfam, Save the Children, the Muslim Council of Britain, One Parent Families and the Refugee Council.
In October, the group will take part in a rally organised by the End Child Poverty coalition. Activities planned for 2009 include a theatre production, Poverty Monologues, using transcripts of real conversations.
