A report by the European Environment Agency claims that climate change threatens the alpine hydrological system, altering precipitation, snow-cover patterns and glaciers, and that the Alps are also exposed to increasing demand for water in agriculture and tourism. The report calls on public and private actors regionally and locally to improve irrigation and water re-use techniques and promote initiatives to raise awareness and reduce water use.
