On Nov 9, the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall is being celebrated at the Brandenburg Gate. The Festival of Freedom will consist of concerts, talks, speeches delivered by international head of states and guests. A large-scale performance with a symbolic fall of the Wall using a ‘domino effect’ will also take place. For almost three decades, Berlin had been separated by the Wall, which was erected in 1961 by the GDR government to cut off the escape movement rooted in the growing economic gap between East and West Germany.
