Last month US nonprofits Breedlove Foods Inc. and the Mama Cares Foundation filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C., challenging a patent owned by a French company and a French government research institute that are pioneers in so-called ready-to-use foods. Why? Well, the American nonprofits claim that in the next year a high-protein peanut butter-like paste could feed over 1 billion people around the world who don’t have enough to eat.
