EU: a resolution on Fair Trade has been approved
According to Fair Trade representatives the resolution is an important step towards a policy of institutional recognition and public aid to Fair Trade
di Redazione
The EU Parliament has approved, with a majority of votes, a Relation on Fair Trade, recently discussed both at the EU Development Commission and at the International Network of the Fair Trade (which included also the Italian General Assembly on Fair Trade, Agices).
The Resolution invites the European Commission to carry out a policy of institutional recognition and public aid to Fair Trade.
Fair Trade is becoming more and more important in the EU: its sales have reached an increase of 20% since 2000 in EU countries and EU is the largest market for Fair Trade products gathering 60-70% of the world sales. This could make Europe a leader in this sector.
