The agreement were about debt conversion for a sum amounting to 44 million euros, cultural cooperation and space cooperation.
The debt of 44 million euros that Italy has cancelled will be used in projects for struggling against poverty and aid to populations, mainly rural populations, of Kenya. The agreement states that the amount of the debt goes to a sort of fund that the Kenya government is committed to use to make better life standards for poor people.
During the meeting an agreement has been signed also on cultural cooperation and reciprocal cooperation for the activities of the Base San Marco of Malindi (a space base), born from an initiative of the University La Sapienza of Rome and then managed by the Italian Space Agency.
The cooperation in the space area, as read on the site foresees the enlargement of the space centre San Marco, located about 32 kilometres from Malindi, and further cooperation with the researchers of the University La Sapienza of Rome, that manages it since the sixties. Italy commits itself to favour social and cultural growth of the area around the base and of the entire country.
