A study by the Sociology Department of the Czech Academy of Sciences reveals that contrary to popular belief, living in Prague is an expensive affair. Rents are up to 81 per cent higher than the rest of the country and while the higher prices were once compensated by higher salaries, this is no longer the case: between 2002 and 2007 the income gap between Prague and the regions has not budged from 39 per cent. www.cas.cz
