Copenhagen has announced it wants to be the world’s first “eco metropolis” by 2015 and the maths is on their side: if at least 50% of people working or studying in the city commuted by bike, 80 thousand tonnes of CO2 would be saved every year. For every kilometre driven by car, society pays DKK 0.69 (0.09 euros), cycling, on the other hand, actually makes money for society – DKK 1.22 (0.16 euros) for every kilometre cycled. www.cphx.dk
