Police in the Siberian city of Irkutsk searched the offices of the NGO Baikal’s Ecological Wave. Showing no search warrant, they confiscated computers and other equipment. The NGO workers claimed the search was directly connected to their recent protest against the rehabilitation by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of a huge paper mill. The mill had closed due to its pollution and Putin’s decision to reopen it has upset environmentalists.
