Spain: Recycle online and raise money for charity

SocialBid: an innovative fundraising solution that uses eBay to sell unwanted objects online and use the money to buy food and medicine for the poor

di Ges

The mission of this new enterprise is to help NGOs to raise funds through the sale, on eBay, of products donated to them by private individuals and enterprises. SocialBid aims at creating a big solidarity-based market within which products scarcely useful for the donor such an old computer or a golf club can be brought again to the market and be transformed into food, medicines or basic infrastructures for the most unprivileged.

In addition, SocialBid is an organisation with a strong social sense as stated in its statutes. It is an enterprise that believes in NGOs and is committed with reinforcing their role in our society so that it devotes 25 % of its profits to them.

It is also committed to corporate responsibility and believes that enterprises can and must do many things in favour of the development of the societies where they operate, either through environment-friendly activities or providing the most vulnerable populations with opportunities. Finally, SocialBid is a transparent enterprise in terms of management and outcomes that makes its accounts publicly known on a quarterly basis and in an absolutely voluntary way and subjects them to an external audit: this way, donors, NGOs and the general population are able to regularly know what it does with its money.

The services offered to NGOs by SocialBid include helping them to identify the products with better sale prospects, to search potential donors, to manage the auction process, etc. SocialBid has close relationships with the Foundations Lealtad, Chandra and Valora, as well as with Caja Navarra, which is its financial partner. Caja Navarra has invested 275,000 ? in this project because of its innovative character.
