Monday May 4 saw tens of thousands march in London in a rally named “Strangers into Citizens”. This UK based campaign is calling for a one-off regularisation of long-term irregular migrants in the UK, who “face exploitation and uncertainty”. According to an LSE report commissioned by the organisation, these amount to around 450,000 people in the UK. Similar processes, referred to as “earned amnesties”, have successfully been carried out in previous years in other European countries such as Spain, Greece and the Netherlands.
