Spain: Galician government will protect the coast
The Galician government suspends urban plans in two localities because of accumulated infringements

Galician coast still has broad virgin areas that are being gradually threatened. In order to increase their protection, the new Galician government has announced a plan which is scheduled to be finished by this summer. The philosophy of the plan and of the new government has been shown the suspension of urban plans in two municipalities, Sada and Tui. In Sada, the town council was planning to build nearly 50,000 new dwellings, four times the current number. In Muxia, one of the areas which was most affected by the Prestige disaster, an urban plan has recently been approved which envisages the building of 700 dwellings for 5,300 people when the current population is only 1,500. www.xunta.es
